SAFETY
Each camp facility is equipped with a panic button and will be worn by the head
counselor during camp. Panic button range is inside and outside the facility. The button
will be used in the event of an emergency.
ACCIDENTS & EMERGENCIES
If your child becomes ill or injured during camp, you will be notified immediately
according to the emergency form. In the event of a minor accident, the counselor will
apply first aid. You will be informed of this incident and treatment given. In the event of a
serious accident or illness, it is Niles Park District’s policy to contact the Niles Fire
Department for emergency first aid and transportation to the hospital. In all accidents,
illnesses, and emergency situations, a Park District staff member will stay with the camper
until the parent/guardian or emergency pick up person arrives.
ILLNESS
For the well-being of your child, other campers, and staff please do not bring a child to
camp that is running a fever of 100° or higher, experiencing diarrhea, cold symptoms, or
vomiting. Children should be free of symptoms for twenty-four (24) hours before
returning to camp. Parents will be notified by the Camp Director to pick up their camper
for any of the above symptoms or becomes ill during camp. Refunds will not be
granted due to illness.
EXTREME HEAT
If the National Weather Service declares that a heat emergency exists, camp activities will
be modified to be more passive and less strenuous. More frequent water breaks will be
provided, and staff will keep a watchful eye for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
MEDICATION/ALLERGIES
If your child requires medication or use of an Epi Pen, Benadryl, asthma inhaler, etc. to
be taken/used during camp hours, a medication dispensing form must be completed
and will be kept on file. Medication must be handled and taken by the campers
themselves.
CODE OF CONDUCT
We want camp to be a great experience for everyone involved. For this to happen,
everyone needs to play a role in creating a positive and safe environment. Campers have
a responsibility to help with this as well by:
• Showing respect to all campers, staff, equipment, and facilities.
• Behaving in a way that results in only appropriate, kind, and positive
interactions with others.
• Foul language will not be tolerated.
• Using caution when playing with others, to avoid causing bodily harm to others.
For this to be successful, the Park District asks for parents’ support in enforcing these
guidelines. Staff will address each incident with the camper (and parent if the situation
requires) in a positive and fair manner meant to help teach campers how to make better
choices. The Park District reserves the right to dismiss a camper whose behavior
endangers the well-being of themselves or the camp.
SWIMMING/WATER DAYS
Recreation Camp: Swimming will be at Oasis Waterpark daily, weather permitting.
Early Childhood Camps: Will have a specific water day(s) at their camp site.
Depending on the weather, campers will utilize the outdoor fenced in grass area for water
play. Details will follow.
Sports Camp: Swimming will be 3-4 days a week depending on scheduled activities.
WHAT IS THE CAMPER POOL SAFETY?
The following procedures will be implemented to ensure swimming safety. Each camper
will have an aquatic evaluation on their first visit to the pool by the Niles Park District
aquatic staff. Color-coded bracelets are distributed daily to designate which area of the
swimming pool campers are safe to use. During open swim camp staff is assigned various
stations in and around the pool along with lifeguards to ensure the campers water safety.
Excludes Early Childhood camps held at the Howard Leisure Center. They will
have specific water play days at camp site.
